Date: 30th Oct

Time: 11.30am 4pm

Location: Cloughan Farm & Abbeyshrule Village

An autumn trail & dining experience featuring a guided walk of historic Abbeyshrule village by Kathryn Keenan , an insightful National Famine Way presentation by Edel McWeeney, and a 2 course farm to table lunch at Cloughan Farm by Fiona Egan.

Your experience begins at Cloughan Farm, where you will be warmly welcomed with morning tea and scones by your host, Fiona and alongside local guide Kathryn Keenan.

Kathryn is a key figure in the community who brings a wealth of local knowledge, passion for history, and deep roots in Abbeyshrule.

From the farm, a short 3km bus journey brings you into the heart of the village, arriving at the iconic National Famine Bronze Shoes Monument. Here, Kathryn will share the moving story behind the shoes as you trace a few symbolic footsteps along the National Famine Way.

Kathryn will then guide you on through the village, weaving together the story of Abbeyshrule past and present. Having grown up in the village and personally contributed to the village’s growth and community efforts over the years, she will share the story of the restored Royal Canal and its vital lifeline in the story and development of the Famine Way. You will also enjoy a visit to the historic Cistercian Abbey ruins, and hear what makes Abbeyshrule a national and international award-winning Tidy Towns village.

Upon returning to Cloughan Farm, we will be joined by Edel McWeeney from the National Famine Way for an insightful presentation on the history, heritage, and ongoing development of this historic trail.

To round off the afternoon, everyone will sit down together around the dining room table to enjoy a seasonal 2 course autumn feast, prepared entirely from scratch in the kitchen by Fiona using much of our kitchen garden bounty. At the table we will continue to share stories, enjoy great food, and the warm hospitality of Cloughan Farm
