Making the most out of your polytunnel: Grow Your Own with Niamh Flannelly
I am very much looking forward to be back on Cloughan Farm this coming April for my third grow your own workshop hosted by Fiona Egan. I am really excited for this one! Through these workshops I’ve learnt there is a lot of people out there with their own polytunnel/greenhouse eager to get them full of crops so they can enjoy their own homegrown food.
This workshop will focus primarily growing crops in a polytunnel/greenhouse. Summer loving crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers etc need a sheltered and warm space to be productive in this country. It also can be utilised during the colder months to extend the growing season. So if you already have a polytunnel/greenhouse or you are interested in getting to know more about growing under cover, this workshop covers all you need to know.
The workshop will cover:
- How to plan your growing space for the year
- Planting techniques and supports for summer crops eg tomatoes/cucumbers
- Pest and disease – trouble shooting and organic prevention and treatment
- How to have a productive autumn/winter polytunnel
- Sowings that you will take home
This will be an enjoyable day for gardening enthusiasts who want to learn about growing undercover, share information and enjoy some great food and company.
I really look forward to these workshops as I always see some returning gardeners and I get to connect with new people. It is such a great way to share knowledge and enjoy some homegrown food together.
On the day wear some warm clothing and garden gloves if you wish. I’ll have some disposable gloves available on the day. You are more than welcome to bring a notepad and pen to take some notes. The day is yours so make the most of it!
